Max woke up buzzing with excitement. Today was Father’s Day, and he had one big mission: to find the perfect gift for Dad. He zipped on his shoes and dashed outside, ready for an adventure.

Max ran to the park. He spotted a shiny red kite tangled in the tree branches. The kite fluttered like a bird trapped in a green cage.

Max stretched, reached, and finally grabbed it. But when he tried to fly it, the wind was too weak.

The kite flopped down like a tired puppy. Max frowned. "Maybe not the perfect gift," he thought.

Next, Max trotted to Mr. Lee’s bakery. The warm smell of cinnamon rolls tickled his nose.

"Dad loves sweet things," Max whispered, picking a small box. But as he walked home, the box slipped and the rolls squished flat, gooey and sticky. Max felt a pang of disappointment but didn’t give up.

Max spotted Benny the cat stuck on the tall fence. Benny meowed loudly, his green eyes wide with worry.

Max climbed carefully, feeling the rough wood under his hands. As he freed Benny, the cat rubbed against Max’s leg and purred. Max smiled widely. "Helping Dad feels good," he thought.

Finally, Max ran home. Dad was working on the porch, fixing a squeaky chair.

Max sat beside him, breathing in the fresh smell of sawdust and paint. They talked about the kite, the rolls, and Benny.

Dad laughed, pulling Max close. "The best gift is having you here," Dad said softly.

Max grinned. No kite, no cinnamon rolls, no shiny new thing. Just this — sunlight, laughter, and love shared between them.

Today, Max knew he had found the perfect gift after all.
