In a forest near a quiet lake, lived an owl. He had big round eyes and thought himself very wise.
Every night, the owl flew from tree to tree. “Hoo hoo!” he cried. “I am the wisest bird in the forest!”
The other animals smiled but said nothing. They had heard his cries many times.
One day, a white swan came to the lake. Her feathers shone like snow. She glided across the water without a sound.
The animals gathered. “What a beautiful bird,” said the deer. “She shines in the sun!”
The owl heard this and felt jealous. “I am wise,” he said. “That is better than beauty.”
At dusk, he flew to the swan. “Why do they follow you?” he asked. “You do nothing but float!”
The swan smiled. “I don’t call for them. They come because of the light.”
“I am full of wisdom,” said the owl. “I speak every night.”
“Maybe that is why they sleep when you speak,” said the swan gently.
The owl blinked. “You think you’re better?”
“No,” said the swan. “But light needs no words. It simply shines.”
The owl flapped his wings and flew to a dark branch. He hooted louder than ever.
But no one came.
The next day, the swan glided by again. Her feathers caught the morning light. The animals watched in peace.
From the trees, the owl watched too—silent this time.
He did not cry out. He only listened.
And for once, he saw how quiet beauty could be.
From that day on, the owl still flew at night—but he spoke less, and saw more.
And the forest grew a little quieter—and a little wiser.
