This story teaches empathy and the importance of kindness to all living beings.
The Mischievous Prince A long time ago, there was a mischievous prince. Even the emperor couldn’t stand him—this naughty prince always gave people a headache.
He loved smashing stones at dogs in his spare time.
Once, he hit a dog so hard that the poor animal’s head swelled up like a steamed bun; its tail, which used to wag happily, drooped completely.
. Sometimes he’d chase cats up trees, or run to the riverbank to scare fish.
Because of this, the flower elves in the palace got so angry that they begged the goblin in the forest for help. Together, they cast a spell: they turned the prince into an animal, making him experience what he’d put others through. As a result, the prince was cursed and thrown into the imperial prison.
Early the next morning, the prince woke up and found two fluffy legs on his body. He looked down in panic—only to see
see that he’d turned into a stray dog!
He rushed out of the palace and ran to the riverbank, whimpering, “Why did I turn into a dog? What am I going to do? How do I get back?”
Just then, the palace guard heard him and shouted, “A stray dog! Chase it away!” The prince felt his legs go weak from fear and trotted down the street. He wanted to explain to the guards he met, but all that came out was a “woof, woof”—turns out, he’d become a real dog!
The prince walked down the street, dejected. When he passed a stone, he shuddered—he’d once used stones to hit dogs! Now, he was the one cowering in fear of being hit. “What if someone hits me with a stone?” he thought, breaking into a run.
After running for a while, he collapsed from exhaustion. His companions (the dogs) ran over to check on him. One of them bit his feather with its teeth—“Is he trying to pluck my feathers?!” The prince panicked and flapped his wings (wait, he’d turned into a bird now?) He was swept up by a gust of wind and flew into the air.
Before he knew it, he’d fallen into the river. The water was icy cold, but strangely, he didn’t drown—he’d turned into a fish! By now, he was starving; usually, he’d have finished lunch and be playing with friends by this time. When he saw food ahead, he swam over eagerly—only to scream in fright (his heart nearly jumped out of his chest): a group of children was scaring the fish for fun!
A fish that looked just like him swam over and asked, “Buddy, you okay? Be more careful next time! Those kids love scaring us—we often go hungry because of them.”
Hearing this, the prince was filled with regret. “I used to do terrible things like this, but I always took pleasure in hurting animals. If I ever turn back into a human, I’ll definitely protect animals and never hurt them again.” But he thought he’d lost his chance to make amends.
However, the flower elves heard his sincere wish and turned him back into a human.
Overjoyed, the prince returned to the palace and immediately ordered everyone in the kingdom to stop mistreating animals.
He also told his friends about his experience, urging them to protect animals from then on.
Now, he’s in the garden, feeding the stray dogs he rescued. So, kids—follow the prince’s example and learn to love and protect small animals!
