Detaily příběhu

I am in a room at night. Everything is black and gray. I can see the shapes of the bed and the chair, but I cannot see their colors. Is the blanket blue? Is it red? I don’t know. Without light, colors go to sleep.

I see the sun rising in the sky. Golden light travels very fast through the window. Suddenly, the room changes! The blanket is bright yellow. The chair is brown. The light has 'woken up' the colors.

I look closely at the sunlight. It looks white, but it is hiding a secret. Sunlight is actually a mix of all the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. They travel together in a team.

I watch the light hit a red apple. The apple catches the orange, yellow, green, and blue light. But it does not like the red light. It kicks the red light back! The red light bounces off the apple and hits my eyes. That is why I see 'red.'

I fly outside to a big tree. I see a green leaf. But here is the big secret: The leaf is not actually green! The leaf is made of tiny things that love sunlight. They use the light to make food for the tree.

The leaf is like a hungry catcher. When the sunlight hits it, the leaf 'swallows' the red light and the blue light. It uses them to grow big and strong. But the leaf does not want the green light.

Because the leaf does not use the green light, it pushes it away. The green light bounces off the surface. My eyes catch this 'leftover' light. I say, 'The leaf is green,' but green is just the color the leaf did not want!

I look at a white flower. A white flower is like a mirror for the whole rainbow. It bounces all the colors back to me. When all the colors mix together in my eye, I see white.

I look at a black rock. The black rock is very greedy! it swallows the red, the blue, and the green. It does not bounce any light back. Because no light reaches my eyes, the rock looks black.

I see the sun getting higher. When the light is very strong, there are many 'light teams' hitting the objects. More light bounces into my eyes. This is why colors look so bright and clear at noon.

I watch the sun go down. The light gets weak. There are fewer 'light teams' bouncing around. The green leaf starts to look dark. The red apple starts to look brown. The colors are starting to hide again.

I look at the world around me. Without light, the world has no color. Objects just choose which part of the light to keep and which to throw away. The world is a beautiful game of bouncing light.
