Mai embarks on her first art class adventure, learning about colors, mixing, lines, and embracing mistakes. She discovers the joy of creativity and the pride of making her own masterpiece.
Hello! This is Mai. Today is a very special day. Mai is going to her first art class! She has a brand new box of crayons and a clean white sketchbook. Mai feels a little nervous, but her heart is full of Colors.
First, Mai meets her teacher, Ms. Hoa. She learns about Tools. Ms. Hoa shows the class different brushes, jars of water, and bright paints. "Your brush is like a magic wand," says Ms. Hoa. Mai holds her brush carefully.
Next, Mai looks at the Primary Colors. She learns about Red, Yellow, and Blue. Ms. Hoa says these are the "Boss Colors." Mai paints a big red circle. It looks like a juicy apple waiting to be eaten.
Now, Mai tries Color Mixing. She learns about Magic. She mixes yellow and blue together. Swirl, swirl! Suddenly, the paint turns green! "It’s like a forest!" shouts Mai. She is amazed by the new color she made.
Suddenly, Mai makes a Big Blob. She learns about Mistakes. A drop of black paint falls on her paper. Mai wants to cry, but Ms. Hoa says, "Don't worry! Let's turn it into a spider!" Mai smiles and adds eight little legs.
Next, Mai tries the Watercolors. She learns about Transparency. She adds a lot of water to her blue paint. It looks like the clear, light sky. Mai paints a soft cloud and feels very peaceful.
Now, it is time for Lines. She learns about Variety. Mai draws straight lines like a fence, wavy lines like the ocean, and zig-zag lines like a mountain. Her hand feels like it is dancing on the paper.
Suddenly, Mai looks at her Hands. She learns about Messiness. Her fingers are covered in blue and orange spots. "I am a colorful masterpiece!" giggles Mai. She realizes that getting a little messy is part of the fun.
Next, Mai draws her Family. She learns about Shapes. She uses a circle for the head and a triangle for the dress. She draws her mom, her dad, and herself holding hands. Drawing the people she loves makes her very happy.
Now, the class is Finishing. She learns about Cleaning. Mai washes her brushes in the jar until the water turns colorful. She puts her crayons back in the box and wipes her little table.
Then, Mai looks at her Finished Picture. She learns about Pride. It is full of colors, lines, and a happy spider. "I am a real artist!" thinks Mai. She can't wait to show her masterpiece to her dad.
Finally, Mai’s dad arrives. She learns about Encouragement. He gives Mai a big hug and says, "This is beautiful, Mai!" Mai realizes that art is a way to share her happy thoughts with everyone.
Mai’s drawing adventure is finished. She tells her mom, "I turned a blob into a friend today!" She realized that With a brush and some paint, you can create a whole new world. If you were in art class, would you paint a green forest or a blue ocean?
