Once upon a time, a girl named Cinderella lived in a large house. She lived with her stepmother and two stepsisters.

They were not kind to Cinderella. She worked all day in the house.

Cinderella cleaned the floors. She cooked the food. She washed the clothes.

One day there was news from the palace. “There will be a ball,” said the king.

The stepsisters were very happy. They put on beautiful dresses.

“I want to go to the ball,” said Cinderella. “No,” said her stepmother. “You must stay home.”

Cinderella was very sad. She sat and cried.

Suddenly a fairy came. “I can help you,” said the fairy.

The fairy had a magic wand. She made a dress for Cinderella. She made glass shoes.

“You must come home before midnight,” said the fairy. “The magic will stop at midnight.”

Cinderella went to the ball. She danced with the prince.

At midnight Cinderella ran away. Her dress changed back to old clothes. She lost one glass shoe.

The prince looked for the girl. He went to many houses. Then he came to Cinderella’s house.

The stepsisters tried on the glass shoe. The shoe did not fit them.
