In the little stone hole at the foot of the mountain, there lives a small snail named Lily. Lily’s biggest dream is to go to the top of the mountain and see the sunrise once.

But Lily crawls very slowly. This is her third time trying to walk to the mountain top. Every time, she can’t even get out of the grass at the foot of the mountain.

It’s 4:30 in the early morning. After ten minutes, she only crawls one meter far.

Just then, Sam the groundhog sticks his head out. Sam knows a shortcut through the tunnel. It goes straight to the middle of the mountain—much faster than walking on the grass.

Sam carries Lily steadily on his back. His four paws dig the ground fast. He zooms through the tunnel. In the blink of an eye, he leaves the grass at the mountain foot far behind.

When they reach the forest at the middle of the mountain, Sam puts Lily down. A monkey with a long brown tail jumps down from a tree branch.

Max climbs steadily and quickly. Lily opens her eyes, watching the leaves beside her move backward. For the first time, she thinks how amazing “fast” could be.

When they climb to the top of the forest, a bird with light feathers flies over. It’s Lucy, who lives near the mountain top.

Lucy holds a branch with a string tied to it in her beak. Lily lies on the branch. Lucy holds the string, spreads her wings, and flies toward the mountain top.

The sunflower field ahead glows with soft golden light—it’s getting closer and closer.

All the sunflowers here face the east.Soon, Lucy puts Lily gently on the biggest sunflower bloom at the mountain top.

The sky in the east suddenly lights up. Lily lies on the sunflower, watching the sun rise little by little. She finally makes her dream come true.

At this moment, there’s only Lily and this soft light. She knows—it was Sam’s tunnel, Max’s climbing, and Lucy’s branch that helped her get here. But this final moment of meeting the light is her own most precious gift.
