Hello! This is Patches the Penguin. Patches loves to draw, but first, he wants to go on a hunt to find all the wonderful Flat Shapes in his town!
Patches finds his first shape: the Circle! A circle is perfectly Round and has no corners or straight sides. It looks like a coin or a cookie.
Next, Patches finds the Square. A square has Four straight sides that are all the same length. It also has Four sharp corners.
Patches sees another four-sided shape: the Rectangle. A rectangle also has four sides and four corners, but two sides are Long, and two sides are Short. It looks like a door!
Up high, Patches sees a flag! The top part of the flag is a Triangle. A triangle has only Three straight sides and three corners. It looks like a slice of pizza!
Patches visits the chicken coop. He sees an Oval egg. An oval is like a stretched-out circle. It is round, but not perfectly round like a ball.
Patches remembers the night sky. He loves the Star shape! A star has many points and many sides. It is a beautiful, tricky shape.
Patches draws a picture of his mom. He draws a Heart shape to show his love! The heart shape is round at the top and pointy at the bottom.
Patches sees shapes everywhere! The Wheels on the car are Circles. The Windows on the house are Squares and Rectangles.
These are Flat Shapes. They are flat like a piece of paper. We cannot hold them in our hands like a ball or a box.
Patches has found all the shapes! He uses the Circle for the sun, the Rectangle for the house, and the Triangle for the roof.
Patches is happy! Shapes help us build and draw everything we see. Now you know the main flat shapes! Look around and find them all!
