Hello! This is Sam the explorer. Sam loves looking closely at everything to find the basic Shapes that build the world around him.

Sam looks at the sky. He sees a perfectly Round Circle! The Sun is a circle, and the wheel on Sam’s bicycle is also a circle. A circle has no corners.

Sam looks at the window of his house. He finds a Square! A square has Four sides that are all the Same Length, and four strong corners.

Next, Sam finds a Rectangle. Like a square, a rectangle has four sides and four corners, but two sides are Long and two sides are Short. The door is a rectangle!

Sam looks at the roof of the small shed. He sees a Triangle! A triangle has only Three sides and three corners. It often looks like a slice of pizza or a mountain peak.

Sam looks at a chicken egg. It is shaped like an Oval. An oval is like a circle that has been gently stretched out, like an egg or a football.

When it gets dark, Sam looks up and sees a Star twinkling! A star shape has many points, often five or six. It is a sharp, fun shape.

Sam draws a picture for his mom. He draws a Heart shape. The heart shape is round at the top and comes to a point at the bottom. It is the shape of love!

Sam flies his Kite outside. The kite is shaped like a Diamond. A diamond shape is like two triangles joined together, wide in the middle and pointed at the top and bottom.

Sam realizes that all the things he plays with are made of shapes! He uses square blocks, round balls, and triangular pieces to build a castle.

Being a shape detective is fun! Once you know the names of the shapes, you can find them everywhere you look, on every street and in every room.

Sam is a Shape Master! Now that he knows the circle, square, triangle, and more, he can draw and build anything he wants.
