Hello! This is Mai. Today, she is going to a very big building with bright, blinking lights. It is the Movie Theater! Mai is wearing her favorite dress. She is excited to see a story come to life on a giant screen. "It's like a big TV for everyone!" says Mai.
First, Mai goes to the Ticket Booth. She learns about Entry. Her dad buys three tickets. The tickets are small pieces of paper that say where they will sit. Mai holds her ticket very tightly. "This is my golden key to the movie!" she thinks.
Next, Mai smells something Delicious. She learns about Snacks. It is the smell of warm, buttery popcorn! Mai and Mom buy a big bucket to share. Crunch, crunch! It is salty and yummy. They also get bottles of cool water for the show.
Now, Mai enters the Theater Room. She learns about Scale. The room is very dark and the seats are red and velvety. The screen is as big as a house! Mai finds her seat and sits down. The chair is so big that her legs dangle in the air.
Suddenly, the Lights go Out. She learns about Focus. The room becomes very quiet and dark. "Don't be scared, Mai. The magic is starting!" whispers Mom. Mai looks at the screen and waits for the first picture to appear.
Next, the Movie Begins. She learns about Animation. Colorful characters start to move and talk. It is a story about a little cat who wants to be an astronaut. Mai laughs when the cat tries to catch a floating star. The colors are so bright!
Now, the Sound is Loud. She learns about Volume. The music feels like it is shaking the floor! Boom, boom! It feels like Mai is inside the movie with the little cat. She feels very brave and happy.
Suddenly, Mai needs to use the Restroom. She learns about Timing. She and Mom walk out quietly on their tiptoes so they don't bother anyone. They come back quickly because Mai doesn't want to miss the cat’s moon landing!
Next, the movie has a Sad Part. She learns about Empathy. The little cat misses his home. Mai feels a little bit sad too. She holds her mom's hand. "It's okay to feel sad for a friend," whispers Mom.
Now, the Happy Ending arrives! She learns about Joy. The cat finds a new friend on the moon and they play together. Everyone in the theater claps their hands. Mai is so happy that she does a little dance in her seat.
The lights Turn On. She learns about Reality. The movie is finished, and the room is bright again. Mai blinks her eyes. It feels like she just woke up from a wonderful dream. She looks at the empty popcorn bucket and smiles.
Then, Mai walks out to the Lobby. She learns about Discussion. She tells Dad all about her favorite parts. "I liked when the cat wore a space helmet!" says Mai. Talking about the movie makes the fun last even longer.
Finally, Mai goes Home. She learns about Inspiration. She takes her crayons and draws a picture of the space cat. She realized that A movie is a window to a world where anything is possible.
If you went to the movies, would you eat salty popcorn or sweet candy?
