The Brave Parrot
A heartwarming tale of courage and determination, 'The Brave Parrot' tells the story of a small red parrot who bravely fights a forest fire by repeatedly carrying water despite being told it is futile. The story emphasizes themes of bravery, perseverance, and compassion in a vibrant forest setting, making it suitable for young readers and their families.
Once, in a forest full of green leaves and singing birds, there lived a little red parrot. He had bright eyes and a cheerful song. The forest was his home, and he loved it deeply.
One hot day, a spark grew into flames. A fire started in the trees. Smoke rose into the sky, and the heat spread fast.
All the animals ran. Deer jumped over logs, monkeys swung through trees, and rabbits raced into holes. The parrot watched from above.
“I must do something,” said the parrot. “I can’t just fly away.” He looked down at the flames.
He flew quickly to the river and dipped his wings in the water. Then he raced back toward the fire. Drip, drip! He shook water down onto the flames.
It wasn’t enough. The fire roared louder. Still, the parrot kept flying—river to fire, fire to river. His feathers darkened with smoke, and his wings grew heavy.
High in the clouds, a god watched him. “This is foolish,” the god said. “One small bird cannot stop a fire.”
The god flew down as a mighty eagle. “Little parrot,” he said gently, “your drops of water won’t help. You must fly away.”
But the parrot looked up. “This forest is my home. The trees are my friends. I won’t give up. I must try.” His voice was small but firm.
The god said nothing. Then he felt something new—tears in his eyes. He wept. And as his tears fell, they became rain. Soft, strong rain poured down.
The fire hissed and faded. The smoke cleared. The animals peeked out from the shadows. They were safe.
The parrot sat on a wet branch, wings soaked and body tired. But he smiled. He had not given up.
The god returned to him. “You are not small,” he said. “You are the biggest heart I’ve ever seen.”
The parrot shook out his wings. Water splashed everywhere. “I only did what I could,” he said simply.
From that day on, the animals called him the Brave Parrot. His name was spoken in every corner of the forest.
The wind carried his story from tree to tree. Even the rain remembered his wings.
And when forest fires burn, birds still whisper: “Be like the parrot. Be brave.”
Even the clouds remember. And sometimes, they cry.
