Dewdrop was not like other droplets. Oh no! While her sisters tumbled down, down, DOWN the big green leaf, Dewdrop wished to roll UP! It was a very silly wish, her sisters giggled. But Dewdrop wiggled her tiny, shiny self and started to climb.

First, she scooted up one bumpy vein on the leaf. It was hard work! Her round body trembled. She saw a tiny purple flower, barely open. “Hello!” she whispered. The flower smelled sweet. Dewdrop learned that going up made her see new things.

But the top of the leaf was still far, far away. Next, the leaf dipped just a little. Oh no! Dewdrop slipped back! She squeezed her middle, puffed her chest, and pushed even harder. She rolled over a patch of rough fuzz. It tickled! A busy ladybug zoomed past, looking surprised. “Up, up, up!” Dewdrop chanted. She saw a shiny green beetle doing a little dance. Going up was slow, oh so slow, but every push showed her something new.

Then, a big wind blew! WHOOSH! The leaf wobbled. Dewdrop almost tumbled off! She held on tight with her water-sticky bottom. A giant, yellow butterfly landed nearby, flapping its big wings. Dewdrop saw all the tiny hairs on its legs! She pushed with all her might, inch by slow inch. The sun warmed her, and she felt strong. She learned that gravity was a tricky thing, always pulling down, down, DOWN. But she kept rolling up, up, UP!

Finally, she reached the very tip-top edge of the leaf! She paused, shining like a tiny jewel. Below, the sparkling river called to her.

With a joyful, brave splash, Dewdrop tumbled into the water, joining all her sisters. She had seen so much on her long, uphill journey!
