Once, there was a kind old ox. He lived with a poor farmer who cared for him like family.

Each day, the ox pulled the plow through the muddy fields. The farmer gave him food, water, and gentle words.

One year, the crops were bad. The farmer had no money. He cried as he led the ox to market.

“I must sell you,” he whispered. “I’m so sorry, old friend.”

The ox licked his hand. He did not pull away.

A rich man bought the ox and took him to a big town.

But the rich man had no kindness. He beat the ox and made him work harder.

Still, the ox pulled every cart, carried every load, and waited for the day he might return.

One day, the rich man bragged, “My ox is the strongest! He can pull ten carts at once!”

The townspeople laughed. “Prove it!”

The man tied ten carts together. “Go!” he shouted. He whipped the ox, but the ox did not move.

The man grew angry. “Lazy beast!”

But the ox was quiet. His eyes were sad.

A whisper came from the crowd. It was the poor farmer. “Friend,” he said softly, “you can do it.”

The ox raised his head. He stepped forward—one, two, three—and pulled the ten carts down the road.

The people cheered. The rich man was shocked. “Why now?” he asked.

“Because,” said the farmer, “the heart moves before the legs. He worked for love, not fear.”

The rich man had no answer. He gave the ox back to the farmer.

And from that day on, the ox lived in peace—plowing slow, resting often, and loved every day.
