Hansel and Gretel

Once upon a time, near a deep dark forest, lived a poor woodcutter with his two children Hansel and Gretel.

The family had little to eat. One night, the stepmother whispered, “We cannot feed them anymore. We must leave them in the forest.”

Hansel whispered to Gretel, “Don’t worry, I’ll leave white pebbles behind us. They’ll guide us home.”

The next morning, they were led deep into the forest. When night fell, the parents were gone. But the moon rose — and the pebbles shone like stars.

They found their way home safely. But soon, there was no food again. This time, Hansel used breadcrumbs — but the birds ate them all.

Lost and hungry, they wandered for hours. Then, through the trees, they saw something wonderful a house made of gingerbread and candy!

Hansel, look!” cried Gretel. “They won’t mind if we have a nibble.” But as they ate, the door creaked open…

It was a witch who loved to eat children! She locked Hansel in a cage and made Gretel cook. “Fatten your brother up,” she hissed.

Days passed. “Check the oven, girl!” the witch snarled. But clever Gretel said, “I don’t know how. Can you show me?”

When the witch leaned in, Gretel pushed her inside and shut the door! The fire roared — and the spell was broken.

They found the witch’s treasure and filled their pockets. Then a white bird appeared and led them home, where their father wept with joy.

Even in the darkest woods, love, courage, and cleverness can light the way home.
