Join Mai on a magical adventure during the Festival of Lights. With her special Wishing Lantern, Mai discovers the joy of gentleness, kindness, comfort, and gratitude, learning that even a small light can bring great happiness, especially when shared with friends.
Hello! This is Mai. Today is the Festival of Lights. Her grandpa gave her a beautiful, round paper lantern. It is bright orange and has a small light inside. Mai calls it her Wishing Lantern.
First, Mai holds the handle carefully. She learns about Gentleness. The lantern is made of thin paper, so she walks slowly. She doesn't want it to tear or fall. It glows like a little moon in her hands.
Next, Mai goes to the park. She sees many children with lanterns. Mai learns about Light. Some lanterns are red, some are green, and some look like fish. The park looks like a sea of colorful stars!
Now, Mai looks at the sky. She learns about Wishes. Her grandpa told her that if she whispers a wish to her lantern, it might come true. Mai closes her eyes and thinks of something very special.
Suddenly, a little Breeze blows. Mai learns about Wind. She uses her hand to protect the light inside. She learns that even a small light can stay bright if we take care of it and keep it safe.
Mai whispers her wish: "I wish for everyone to be happy." Mai learns about Kindness. Wishing for others makes her feel warm inside, even warmer than the light in her lantern.
Next, Mai sees a little girl who is sad. Her lantern is broken. Mai learns about Comfort. She walks over and shares her light. "We can look at my lantern together," says Mai with a smile.
Now, they walk to the River. Mai learns about Reflections. She sees the light of her lantern dancing on the water. It looks like there is another festival happening under the river!
Suddenly, it is time for the Mooncake. Mai learns about Shapes. The cake is round like the moon. She shares a piece with her new friend. It tastes like sweet beans and lotus seeds.
The moon is now very high and very bright. Mai learns about The Night Sky. She realizes that the moon is the biggest lantern of all, watching over all the children in the world.
Now, it is time to go home. Mai learns about Gratitude. She thanks her grandpa for the beautiful lantern and the wonderful night. She feels very lucky to have such a kind family.
Finally, Mai puts her lantern on her nightstand. She learns about Peace. The soft orange light helps her feel safe as she climbs into bed. She knows her wish is flying high in the sky.
Mai’s lantern adventure is finished. She closes her eyes and falls into a deep sleep. She realized that A Small Light Can Bring Great Joy. Especially when you share it with a friend. If you had a magic lantern, what would your wish be?
