In the silver forests of Greece lived Artemis, the goddess of the moon and the hunt. She loved all wild things and protected every creature that roamed beneath the stars.
The woods were quiet and bright. Deer drank from clear streams, owls sang softly, and Artemis walked barefoot under the moonlight, her silver bow at her side.
One day, a group of hunters entered her sacred forest. They whispered of glory and prizes, and their leader swore to catch the finest stag ever seen.
Hidden among the trees stood a stag with golden antlers. Its eyes shone like sunlight on water. It was the guardian of the forest — Artemis’s favorite companion.
The hunters raised their spears. The stag leapt and ran through the mist, swift as wind. But the noise reached Artemis’s ears, and she turned her gaze toward them.
Moonlight flooded the woods. Artemis stepped from the shadows, tall and fierce, her silver arrows glowing in her hand. “Who dares harm my forest?” she said.
The men fell to their knees. “We meant no harm, Lady of the Hunt!” they cried. The golden stag stood beside her, calm and unharmed.
Artemis looked at them with steady eyes. “You sought glory,” she said, “but true strength lies in respect.” She lowered her bow and spared them.
The hunters promised never to harm her sacred woods again. They laid down their weapons and bowed to the goddess. Artemis touched the stag’s mane and smiled.
That night, the goddess walked again through her forest. The golden stag followed her silently. The moon rose high, bright and pure.
Owls sang in the branches, wolves howled in the distance, and the forest was alive once more. Peace returned to the land of Artemis.
And so, every full moon, when silver light touches the earth, people remember Artemis — protector of life, goddess of the wild, and friend of the golden stag.
