These particles fly out of the bulb in all directions. Light travels very fast, so it looks like the room fills with light immediately!
The tiny particles of light hit all the objects in the room and bounce back toward your eyes. Now you can see the shelf, the chair, and the table.

In ancient times, people didn’t understand light . Some thought it came from powerful creatures, like the Egyptian sun god Ra.
This type of light is called natural light, like light from the sun, moon, stars, and fire.
Later on, many people tried harder to understand light. Sir Isaac Newton found out light can produce so many colors, like all the colors of the rainbow. Sir Albert Einstein discovered that light comes in tiny balls full of energy.
Yes you can! Ask mummy or daddy or someone older to help you with this experiment.
These discoveries helped people produce man-made or artificial light, like: • Torches • Candles • Oil lamps • Phone flashlights
And because of them, people like Sir William Herschel discovered that light can change into heat, which is why we now have heaters to warm us up.
They also discovered light can be turned into electricity, which we use to power our TVs. Light can be used for photography to keep our memories forever. And it can even be used to kill germs on our tools with something called sterilization lamps.
