Lily wore her mittens. Always. Even inside. Her heart felt funny. The sky changed colors. Every night. Why did it do this? Her chest felt a tug. A big tug.

She looked out her window. Orange light. Purple clouds. It was a mystery. She asked her cat, Whiskers. Whiskers just blinked. He did not know.

Lily went outside. She saw a tiny dust cloud. It whirled past a sunbeam. The dust made the light dance. Wow! She watched.

The dust moved the light. The sky changed. Her mittens felt warm. Not right. Her hands felt hot.

She ran to her mom. "Mom! The sky! It's dust!" Her mom smiled. "Tiny bits, dear. They push the sun's light."

Lily squinted at the sky. Small bits. All around. They made the red. They made the blue. They made the purple.

She pulled off one mitten. Her fingers wiggled. She felt the air. She saw the sun. The sky was a big painting. Made by tiny dust. Made by light. Her chest felt light. No more tug.

She pulled off the other mitten. She held her hands out. The sky glowed orange. Then purple. Then dark blue. Lily watched. Her hands were free. Free to see the sky.
