Nutty the squirrel embarks on a delightful detective adventure to find his lost golden acorn. Along the way, he learns valuable life lessons about colors, memory, reflections, clues, sharing, teamwork, safety, gratitude, rest, and planning, all while making a new friend.
Hello! This is Nutty. He is a small brown squirrel with a very bushy tail. Today, Nutty is worried. He hid his favorite, biggest golden acorn under an oak tree, but now it is gone! Nutty puts on his detective hat and starts his Great Search.
First, Nutty looks under the Autumn Leaves. He learns about Colors. He moves the red, orange, and yellow leaves with his paws. Crinkle-crunch! He doesn't find his acorn, but he finds a tiny blue beetle. "Have you seen my treasure?" asks Nutty.
Next, Nutty meets Hoot the Owl. He learns about Memory. Hoot lives high in the tree. "Did you look near the big grey rock, Nutty?" asks Hoot. Nutty realizes that sometimes we forget exactly where we put things when we are in a hurry.
Now, Nutty reaches the River Bank. He learns about Reflections. He sees something round and brown in the water. He reaches in, but it is just his own reflection! Nutty laughs. The water is cool and clear, but his acorn is not there.
Suddenly, Nutty hears a Scratched Sound. He learns about Clues. Behind a bush, he sees small footprints in the dirt. They lead towards the pine forest. Nutty follows the tracks: Hop, hop, hop! He is getting closer!
Next, Nutty meets Pip the Mouse. He learns about Sharing. Pip is holding a piece of the golden acorn! "I found this on the path," says Pip. "I thought it was a gift from the forest." Nutty realizes Pip didn't mean to take his treasure.
Now, Pip shows Nutty the Rest of the Acorn. He learns about Teamwork. Pip had moved the acorn to a safe, dry hole in a log because it started to rain. Together, they carry the big golden acorn back to the oak tree.
Suddenly, it starts to Snow lightly. Nutty learns about Winter. The first white flakes fall on his nose. Nutty knows he needs to store his treasure safely before the ground turns white and cold.
Next, Nutty finds a Hidden Hollow. He learns about Safety. This hole is high up in the tree, away from the wet ground and the wind. Nutty and Pip put the golden acorn inside and cover it with soft moss.
Now, Nutty wants to say Thank You. He learns about Gratitude. He finds some sunflower seeds and shares them with Pip. "Thank you for keeping my treasure safe!" says Nutty. A new friendship is the best treasure of all.
The moon begins to Rise. Nutty learns about Rest. The forest is quiet and silver. Nutty curls his big bushy tail around his body like a warm blanket. He feels very happy and his tummy is full.
Finally, Nutty falls asleep. He learns about Planning. He decides that next time, he will draw a small map or tell a friend where he hides his winter food. He dreams of a forest where every tree is full of golden acorns.
Nutty’s detective adventure is finished. He tells his mama, "I lost a nut but I found a friend!" He realized that Helping each other is more important than any treasure. If you lost a treasure, would you look under the leaves or ask a wise owl for help?
