This imaginative tale encourages healthy eating in a fun and engaging way.
Hello! This is Mai. Today, she is looking at a plate of carrots and broccoli. "I don't want to eat them!" says Mai.
Suddenly, her fork turns into a magic wand! Zing! The kitchen floor opens up, and Mai slides down a rainbow slide into the Kingdom of Vegetables.
First, Mai arrives at the Orange Palace. She learns about Vision. The palace is shaped like a giant Carrot. The Carrot King wears a crown of green leaves. "Eat me, and you will see like a hawk!" he says. Mai tries a small piece, and suddenly her eyes feel bright and clear.
Next, Mai meets the Broccoli Trees. She learns about Strength. The broccoli look like tiny, bushy trees. They are the "Soldiers of Health." They show Mai their strong green muscles. "We make you grow tall and brave!" they sing in a chorus.
Now, Mai sees the Purple Mountains. She learns about Protection. These mountains are made of Eggplants and Purple Cabbage. They are very beautiful. "Our purple color is like a shield that keeps you from getting sick," says the Queen Eggplant.
Suddenly, a Red Pepper Car zooms by. She learns about Energy. The Pepper is bright and fast. "I am full of Vitamin C!" it shouts. Mai touches the shiny red skin and feels a spark of energy in her own legs. She wants to run and play!
Next, Mai visits the Corn Village. She learns about Texture. The corn stalks are tall, and each ear of corn has golden "hair." Mai pulls back the husk and sees rows of shiny yellow pearls. "We are the gold of the earth!" say the corn kernels.
Now, she meets the Onion Dancers. She learns about Layers. The onions wear many coats. As they dance and peel off a layer, they reveal a fresh, white center. "We make your food smell delicious!" they say with a spicy twirl.
Suddenly, Mai finds the Tomato Lake. She learns about Juiciness. The water is bright red and sweet. Tiny cherry tomatoes are splashing around. Mai drinks a little, and it tastes like sunshine and rain. She realizes that vegetables can be very tasty!
Next, Mai sees the Potato Underground. She learns about Hidden Treasures. The potatoes live under the soil. They are humble and brown, but they are full of power to help Mai's brain work fast. "We are the fuel for your adventures!" they whisper.
Now, all the vegetables have a Grand Feast. She learns about Variety. They dance together in a big salad bowl. Mai realizes that when they are all together, they make a perfect team. "A rainbow on your plate is a rainbow in your body!" they shout.
The magic starts to Fade. She learns about Returning. Mai feels her feet lifting off the ground. She waves goodbye to the Carrot King and the Broccoli Soldiers. "I will see you at dinner time!" shouts Mai as she flies back up the rainbow slide.
Then, Mai wakes up at the Kitchen Table. She learns about Action. She looks at her plate. The carrots don't look boring anymore; they look like pieces of the Orange Palace. She takes a big, happy bite of her broccoli. Crunch!
Finally, Mai tells her Mom about the trip. She learns about Health. Mom is very happy to see Mai eating her greens. Mai realized that Eating vegetables is like inviting little superheroes to live inside you. If you went to this kingdom, would you visit the Carrot Palace or the Broccoli Forest?
