Once upon a time, a king and queen had a baby girl. They were very happy.

They had a big party at the castle. Many people came to see the baby.

Good fairies came to the party. They gave the baby special gifts.

Suddenly a bad fairy came to the castle. The bad fairy was very angry.

The bad fairy made a magic spell. “She will prick her finger on a spindle,” said the bad fairy. “She will sleep.”

A good fairy spoke softly. “She will sleep for many years,” said the fairy. “But then a prince will wake her.”

The king was afraid. He said, “Take away all the spindles!”

The princess grew into a young girl. She lived happily in the castle.

One day the princess went into a tower. She saw an old woman with a spindle.

“What is that?” asked the princess. “It is a spindle,” said the woman.

The princess touched the spindle. She pricked her finger.

The princess fell asleep. Soon everyone in the castle fell asleep.

The castle was quiet. Everyone slept. Trees grew around the castle.

Many years passed. One day a prince came to the castle.

The prince went inside. He saw the princess. He kissed her.

The princess woke up. Everyone woke up. They lived happily ever after.
