Leo loved helping people. But sometimes, he got too excited and interrupted his classmates before they finished speaking. One day, in class, Mia tried to explain her idea for a group project. But Leo jumped in and said, “I know! We can build a birdhouse!” Mia looked down. She didn’t say anything.

After school, Leo told Grandma about his birdhouse idea. But Grandma asked gently, “Did Mia say what she wanted first?” Leo paused. “I… I don’t think so.” Grandma smiled. “Helping is wonderful. But real kindness starts with listening.”

That night, Leo sat on his bed, staring at the stars outside. He remembered how sad Mia looked. “I didn’t listen. I just wanted to help,” he whispered. He wrote in his kindness journal: “Next time, listen first.”

The next day, Leo found Mia at recess. “I’m sorry I cut you off,” he said. “I want to hear your idea.” Mia smiled slowly. “Thanks, Leo. I wanted to make a friendship garden.” Leo nodded. “That sounds amazing. Let’s do your idea.”

Leo, Mia, and their classmates worked together to build a small garden by the school fence. They planted flowers, painted signs, and made a bench that said: “Kindness Grows Here.” Leo listened to every idea — and felt proud of the team.

That night, Leo looked up at the stars again. He smiled and whispered, “One seed planted… with my ears this time.”
