A long time ago, Papa Bear left home. Little Bear asked, “Where did he go?” Mama Bear smiled. “He went deep into the forest.”

“He’s helping animals stop all their arguing,” she said. “He’s strong, brave, and kind. He’s a real superhero.”

Ever since then, Little Bear told everyone at forest school: “My papa flies over trees and eats thunderclouds for lunch!” “My papa wears a cape made of owl feathers!”

Every day, he told a new tale. “My papa made the monkeys and tigers shake paws!” “He’ll come home when he’s done saving the forest!”

Then one quiet afternoon, the front door creaked open. Papa Bear was back. He smiled wide and opened his arms.

He wore the same jacket from the old photo. There was a patch on the elbow, and the zipper was crooked. No cape. No lightning boots. Just Papa.

Little Bear looked at the photo, then at Papa. He tilted his head and whispered, “You’re not Batbear. You’re not Super-Fur.”

Papa Bear opened his mouth, then closed it again. He gave Little Bear a gentle pat on the head.

That night, wind howled through the windows. Lightning flashed. The forest shook. Little Bear curled up in bed, wide awake.

He held his stuffed squirrel tight and whispered, “Maybe I’ll meet the superhero version… in my dreams.” Rain tapped gently on the roof.

The next morning, the sky was clear. Mama Bear asked them to pick blueberries. “I’ll carry the basket,” said Little Bear.

“I’ll carry the jokes,” said Papa Bear. So they set off together, one little paw and one big one.

Just beyond the berry patch—SQUELCH! Little Bear’s paw sank into thick, sticky mud. He wobbled and yelped, “It’s the Swamp of Doom!”

Papa Bear scooped him up. “Super Bear… FIRST JUMP!” They flew over the puddle in one muddy leap.

No time to rest—thorny vines twisted across the path. “Spiky snakes ahead!” Little Bear cried. Papa Bear twirled once. “SECOND JUMP!”—and over they spun.

Then came a giant fallen tree trunk, wide and wild. Papa Bear didn’t slow down. “FINAL JUMP!” he roared—and launched into the air.

They soared, flipped, and crash-landed in a pile of pinecones. Muddy, leafy, giggling, and covered in blueberry juice— they were home.

That night, Little Bear snuggled under the blanket. He looked up at Papa and whispered, “You’re not Batbear. You’re not Super-Fur.”

“But today you jumped over the Swamp of Doom, spun past spiky snakes, and flew across a giant log.”

“You’re muddy, scratchy, and brave. And you still brought home berries.” “You’re my superhero.”

Papa Bear kissed his nose. “Always,” he said. And the night was quiet and warm.
