Light from the candle

There lived a girl called Mwaniki from Othaya who was bright and beautiful . Her parents were both hardworking farmers as they did all they could to feed and cloth her and her sister In school she was the top student in any school activity be it sports or class activities .What she lacked in resources she made up for in academics .

One day she was called into the priciples office and that didn't alarm her at all as she was used to it . The principal wanted to inform her that she had been selected for a spelling bee . This was a competiton where selected children would complete in spelling differnet words and whomever got most words correct won .She was handed a paper with the rules of the contest and also informed that her parents had to approve and sign the paper.

She came home with the paper and informed her parents of the competition and what was needed from them . She infomed them that she would have to come home with some more reading materials that aligned with the criteria of the tournament . Her parents never raised her to shy away from opportunities and therefore signed the paper and agreed to support her with what she needed . She went to bed that day knowing thats she had a challenge ahead of her .

The next day after school she came with alot of reading material in preparation for the contest . Her parents provided her with lots of candles that would help her study for a long time . After helping her recite some words they went to sleep and left Mwaniki to continue burning the midnight oil . This never interfered with her school or sleeping schedule as she was excluded from home chores .

She continued doing so for about a week having costed her parents more than the monthly budget they usually used for candles . But this was no problem as her parents knew what was in store when they agreed for her to join the competition .Now this was the last day to prepare as tommorrow would be the competition . They all came to help her reherse that night and suprisingly she never misspelled any word .This boosted her confidence and her parents knew she would do good at the contest.

The long awaited day finaly arrived and mwaniki was determined to win . She was the last to be tested and thus had no stage fright . Her family cheered her on as she spelled the words . She mostly thought of her parents hardwork to help her reach here and thus gave it her best . After all participants spelled their words the jugdes now had to tally the results .

After tallying the results it was announced that Mwaniki had emerged as the winner . Her parents came up to the stage to acept the reward with her . To their amazement the prize was solar powered lamps , this was a huge relief to her and her parents . Now there was no need to buy candles again and that meant that they could spare some money to use on other things .

That night when they got home there was a relief as they didn't have to use candles again as the lamps worked perfectly . Mwaniki's ambition,dedication and her parents support had changed their lives for the better . The little light they relied had made them achieve alot .
