Welcome to the Land of Amhara! Join Lomi, a curious little girl, as she travels through the highlands of Ethiopia to learn about her people, their colors, their music, and their heart.

The sun rises over tall mountains. Lomi wakes up to the sound of roosters and smells of fresh injera. Her grandmother says, “The day begins with warmth and kindness, enat lij! (my child).”

Lomi walks with her basket to the colorful market. Women sell spices, honey, and baskets. She hears people greeting each other, saying “Selam!” Everyone smiles — it’s a happy day!

In the afternoon, drums begin to play. Men and women dance the eskista — shoulders moving fast to the beat! Lomi laughs and joins in, her braids bouncing with the rhythm.

Grandmother calls everyone for the bunna (coffee) ceremony. The smell of roasted beans fills the air. They drink from small cups, and kids sip sweet telba (flax drink). It’s time for stories and love.

As the stars come out, grandfather tells the story of King Lalibela — The king who built churches from solid rock! “Each church,” he says, “was carved by faith and hope.”

That night, Lomi dreams she’s flying above the Blue Nile Falls. She sees farmers, shepherds, and smiling children. Her heart whispers, “Amhara is love, courage, and history.”

Lomi wakes up and runs outside. “Egziabher yimesgen! (Thank God!)” she says. Today she will learn more, love more, and dance more for she belongs to the beautiful land of Amhara.
