Hello! This is Mai. She noticed that the world outside her window doesn't stay the same. The leaves change color, the air gets cold, and then flowers bloom again. These changes are called the Seasons!
The Earth is slightly Tilted as it travels around the Sun. Because of this tilt, different parts of the Earth get more or less sunlight at different times of the year. This is what creates our Four Seasons.
First comes Spring. The weather gets warmer, and the snow melts. This is the time of New Life. Seeds start to sprout, and the trees grow tiny green leaves.
"April showers bring May flowers!" Spring can be very Rainy. The rain gives the thirsty plants the water they need to grow tall and strong. Mai loves to splash in the puddles!
Next is Summer. Summer has the longest days and the hottest weather. The Sun stays high in the sky for a long time. It is the perfect time for swimming and eating Ice Cream.
In the Summer, the forest is very busy. Bees buzz around flowers, and butterflies flutter in the air. Animals have plenty of Food to eat, like sweet berries and green grass.
After Summer comes Autumn, also called Fall. The air gets crisp and cool. The leaves on the trees change from green to beautiful Orange, Red, and Yellow.
In Autumn, animals get ready for the cold. Squirrels hide nuts, and some birds fly away to warmer places. This journey is called Migration. The trees drop their leaves to save energy.
Then comes Winter. The days are short and the nights are long. In many places, it Snows. The ground is covered in a white blanket, and some animals go into a deep sleep called Hibernation.
Winter is the time for cozy fires and warm sweaters. Even though it is cold, the trees are resting so they can be ready for the next Spring. Everything in nature needs a Rest.
The seasons are a Cycle. They always follow the same order: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. This cycle helps the Earth stay healthy and gives us different things to enjoy all year!
Mai loves all the seasons for different reasons. She loves the flowers of Spring and the snow of Winter. Which season do you like the most?
