Hello! This is Leo. Today, Leo is wearing a plastic magnifying glass and a little brown hat. He is pretending to be a Junior Detective. He is at the playground when he sees his friend, Mai, looking very sad. She has lost her favorite toy, a small brown bear named Barnaby.

First, Leo starts the Investigation. He asks Mai where she last saw Barnaby. "We were at the slide, and then we went to the swings," she says, wiping a tear. Leo learns that to solve a problem, you must first gather Information and listen carefully to your friends.

Next, Leo looks for Clues. He walks slowly toward the big blue slide. He peers under the stairs and through the tall grass. He doesn't find the bear, but he finds a small blue ribbon. "Is this Barnaby’s?" he asks. Mai nods! Leo learns that even tiny signs can show you the right path.

Leo decides to check the Swing Set. He looks in the soft sand beneath the swings. He uses his magnifying glass to look for "Bear Tracks," which makes Mai giggle. Even though the situation is serious, Leo knows that a little Humor helps a friend feel much better.

They meet Lam, who is playing with a ball nearby. Leo asks Lam if he has seen a bear. Lam says he saw something brown near the Water Fountain. Leo realizes that being a detective means talking to "Witnesses." He thanks Lam and moves to the next part of the park.

At the water fountain, there is no bear. However, Leo notices a trail of Damp Footprints leading toward the park benches. He follows the trail carefully. He is learning about Deduction—putting different pieces of a story together to find a solution.

They reach the benches, but Barnaby isn't there either. Leo stops and thinks. "Wait!" he says. "If the footprints are wet, maybe someone found him and tried to wash him?" He decides to check the Lost and Found Box near the park entrance.

Leo and Mai run to the big wooden box by the gate. Leo stands on his tiptoes to look inside. He see sweaters, a lone shoe, and a purple hat. Then, at the very bottom, he sees a Fuzzy Ear! He reaches in and pulls out a very clean, slightly damp Barnaby.

Mai lets out a happy cheer and gives Barnaby a giant hug. "You found him, Detective Leo!" she cries. Leo feels a huge wave of Satisfaction. He learns that the best part of solving a mystery is seeing the big smile on a friend's face.

They find a note attached to the bear's arm. It says, "Found near the fountain. He was a bit muddy, so I cleaned him. —The Park Keeper." Leo learns about the Kindness of Strangers. Someone he didn't even know took the time to help a lost toy.

Leo takes off his detective hat and gives it to Mai for a moment. They decide to play one last game together before going home. Leo realizes that Responsibility is important, too; Mai promises to keep Barnaby safely in her backpack whenever they move to a new part of the park.

The sun is setting, and the mystery is officially closed. Leo packs up his magnifying glass. He feels proud because he used his brain and his heart to help someone. He realized that being a detective is all about Observation and Caring for the people around you.

Leo’s detective adventure is finished. As he walks home, he thinks about what his next case might be. Maybe a missing sock or a hidden treasure in the garden? If you were a detective, what would be the name of your secret agency?
