PIPPIE AND THE SCARY HAWK

Pippie was a cute little bird who loved to quack and play.

One bright summer morning, Pippie’s mom was leaving to go gather food for them. “Stay in our nest, Pippie. Do not fly near the eerie trees over there”, she warned. Pippie nodded, “okay mom!”.

Pippie played with a dry twig and flew around the nest flap! flap! flap!

Soon, Pippie sighted a bright, juicy, red fruit in a branch of the distant eerie trees. It looked so ripe and she wondered how it would taste.

“Mom said to stay in our nest”, Pippie thought. But the fruit looked so appetizing and the thought of tasting it made her mouth water.

Pippie flew and perched just a little closer to where the fruit was when suddenly, a big, black, angry hawk appeared out of nowhere!

Noooooo!!!” Pippie screamed! She was afraid. Her mom had told her how the big scary hawk who lurks in the eerie trees loves to eat little birds like her and to run if she ever saw him.

Pippie now understood why her mom had warned her to stay in their nest. Quickly, she rose and flew courageously! She flew as fast as her tiny wings could carry.

Flap, flap, flap she flew back into their safe nest. The angry hawk could not follow her into the nest so he ceased pursuit and turned away.

Pippie’s mom returned just in time to see her panting. “What happened?” she asked. Pippie hugged her mum tightly and told her what happened.

Pippie’s mom beamed with pride, “you are very smart and brave, Pippie, but you should always obey instructions so you can help me keep you safe”, she said.

That day, Pippie learned to never disobey her mom ever again.
