Tiny Cloud loves tickling mountain tops, but refuses to water the fields. Through encounters with the Sun, a bird, and a cow, he learns the joy and importance of helping others and sharing his rain.
Tiny Cloud wore a silly rainbow hat. He *loved* to tickle the tippy-top of tall mountains! He’d giggle as their rocky peaks shivered. But Tiny Cloud never, ever watered the thirsty fields far below. “Silly fields,” he’d puff, “mountains are much more fun!”
One scorching morning, the Big, Bright Sun squinted down. “Tiny Cloud,” boomed the Sun, his rays practically sizzling, “please, oh please, give me some shade! I’m melting! My golden face is turning red!”
Tiny Cloud floated closer. He made a small, fluffy shadow. The Sun sighed a happy, warm sigh. “Ah, much better! See, Tiny Cloud? We need each other! I give light, you give shade.”
Tiny Cloud tilted his rainbow hat. He thought about that. *Need each other?*
Next, a tiny, chirping bird flew by, its feathers ruffled and its beak wide open. “Oh, Tiny Cloud,” peeped the bird, its voice so dry it crackled, “my little nest is so hot! My babies are panting! Could you… could you sprinkle just a *little* bit of cool water?”
Tiny Cloud looked down. The little bird looked so sad. He remembered the Sun’s words. *Need each other?* He made a tiny, gentle drizzle. The bird zipped off, singing a happy, trilling song. Tiny Cloud felt a little fluttery feeling in his cloud-belly.
Then, a big, brown cow mooed, a long, sad sound. “Moooooo! Tiny Cloud! My grass is all crunchy! My farmer is sad! We are all so thirsty, even the daisies are drooping!” The cow’s eyes were big and watery.
Tiny Cloud looked at the cow, then at the parched, brown field. The silly rainbow hat felt heavy on his head. He remembered the Sun and the bird. *Need each other!* With a deep breath, Tiny Cloud closed his eyes. He squeezed a big, juicy rain shower. Plink! Plop! The water splashed. The cow mooed a happy, loud MOO! The grass drank it up. Tiny Cloud felt a warm, happy wiggle all the way to his fluffy toes. He floated, feeling important, remembering how everyone, even the fields, needed him too.
