Silas, the town cobbler, wore his big red coat. It was Christmas morning. A cold wind bit at little Timmy’s ears.

He shivered and cried. Silas reached into his coat pocket. *Poof!* A warm, woolly scarf appeared.

Timmy’s tears stopped! He snuggled into the soft red yarn. “Thank you, Silas!” he squeaked.

Later, a baker cried. Her oven light was out! Her cookies would burn. Silas reached into his coat pocket.

*Swish!* A brand-new lightbulb glowed. The baker cheered! Her cookies were saved. “You’re magic, Silas!” she laughed.

The town fountain stopped bubbling. Water would not flow for thirsty dogs. The mayor wrung his hands.

Silas reached into his coat pocket. *Zoom!* A shiny wrench popped out. Silas tinkered, and the fountain gurgled again.

The dogs drank. “How do you do it?” the mayor asked, amazed.

Silas smiled. “My coat,” he said, “is for sharing. Everyone gives a little. So, there is always enough.”

The townspeople looked at their own hands. They understood.

Giving made the coat full. Giving made their hearts full too.
