Polly the parrot learns the magic words "please" and "thank you" at a picnic with Ellie (Elephant), Moni (Monkey), and Leo (Lion). By using these words, Polly makes her friends happy and discovers that kindness makes every day magical.
Polly the parrot was so excited. “It’s picnic day! Hooray! Hooray!” she squawked, flapping her wings. All her jungle friends came along.
Ellie the Elephant brought juicy mangoes.
Moni the Monkey brought a bunch of bananas.
Leo the Lion brought his shiny red ball.
“Yum-yum fun, here we come!” Polly chirped as they set up the picnic.
Ellie peeled a juicy mango and offered it to Polly. Polly reached out but—oops! Ellie pulled it back. “Not so fast, Polly!” Ellie said. “What’s the magic word?”
“Magic word? Umm… abracadabra?” Polly guessed. Ellie shook her head. “Nope, it’s please!” “Oh! May I please have the mango?” Polly said.
Ellie smiled. “That’s the magic word!” She handed Polly the mango, and Polly slurped it up. “Mmm, mangoes are the best!”
After lunch, Moni passed Polly a banana. Polly grabbed it right away. But Moni looked surprised. “Polly, what’s the second magic word?”
“Magic word? Umm… hocus pocus?” Polly guessed. Moni giggled. “Nope, it’s thank you!” “Oh! Thank you for the banana!” Polly said. Moni grinned and handed her another. “Bananas are even sweeter with magic words!”
Polly practiced her magic words all afternoon. “Please pass the juice!” she asked Leo. “Thank you for sharing the shade!” she told Ellie. “Please and thank you, please and thank you!” Polly sang as she danced around the picnic.
Her friends clapped their hands and paws. “Hooray for Polly! The queen of magic words!” Polly giggled. “Magic words aren’t just words—they make everyone happy!” From that day on, Polly always remembered her please and thank you—and her picnics were always full of smiles!
