Story Details

Once upon a time, a poor old woman lived alone and worked hard to gather firewood. One day, she found a strange egg in the bushes and took it home. Soon, the egg hatched, and out came a little rooster. She cared for it with love, and as it grew, something magical happened the rooster could talk!

One day, the rooster said, “Mother, give me a coin. I will buy rice and lentils for us.” The surprised woman gave him a coin, and the rooster flew to the market. Using his magic, he carried lots of food in his ear and brought it home. Soon, they had plenty to eat, and the old woman was no longer poor.

One day, the rooster said, "Mother, I will bring a princess to be your daughter-in-law!" The old woman was stunned but said nothing. Determined, the rooster set off on its journey.

Along the way, a swarm of bees saw the rooster and asked, "Where are you going, Rooster?" "I am going to marry the king's daughter," the rooster replied. "Take us with you! We will help you," said the bees. "Alright," said the rooster, and it tucked them into its ear.

Further along, the rooster came across a pond. The pond asked, "Where are you going, Rooster?" "I am going to marry the king's daughter," the rooster replied. "Take me with you! I will help you," said the pond. The rooster stored the pond’s water in its other ear and continued its journey.

A little farther, the rooster met fire. "Where are you going, Rooster?" the fire asked. "I am going to marry the king's daughter," the rooster replied. "Take me with you! I will help you," said the fire. "But won’t you burn me?" the rooster hesitated. "I will only help, not harm," the fire assured. So, the rooster carefully carried the fire along with it and continued on its way.

Finally, the rooster reached the king’s palace and told the gatekeeper, "I have come to marry the princess. Inform the king!" Hearing this, the gatekeeper laughed and ordered the guards to chase the rooster away. But the rooster quickly called out, "Bees, my friends, help me!" Immediately, the swarm of bees flew out of its ear and started stinging the guards. The guards ran away in fear.

Hearing the commotion, the king came out to see what was happening. The rooster boldly declared, "I have come to marry your daughter!" The king was furious. "How dare a mere rooster ask for my daughter’s hand?" he shouted. "Get out before I punish you!" The rooster stood firm and replied, "If you refuse, I will show you my power, and you will regret it!" The king laughed mockingly. "What power do you have?" The rooster then called out, "Fire, my friend! Teach the king a lesson!"

Suddenly, fire blazed out from the rooster’s ear and started spreading around the palace. The guards screamed, "Fire! Fire!" and ran for their lives. The heat was unbearable, and the king was terrified.

Seeing the destruction, the frightened king quickly surrendered. "Fine! I will give you my daughter!" he exclaimed. And so, the clever rooster outwitted the king and won the princess for the old woman.

Moral of the story: Intelligence, courage, and resourcefulness can overcome even the greatest obstacles.
