Story Details

Ding Feng Bo: Calming the Storm On the seventh day of the third month, while on the road to Sand Lake, we were caught in the rain. Our rain gear had gone on ahead, and my companions were all miserable. I alone felt unconcerned. The sky soon cleared, so I wrote this.

Heed not the sound of rain beating through the forest leaves.

Why not walk on slowly, chanting as you go?

A bamboo cane and straw sandals are better than a horse.

Who's afraid? A straw cloak is enough to shelter a life in misty rain.

The chilly spring wind sobers me from my wine.

A slight chill, but the slanting sun on the mountaintop comes to greet me.

Looking back at the desolate place where the storm has passed,

I go on. There is neither wind and rain, nor is there sunshine.

Wet clothes will fade, Scraped knees won't stay, But joy glows inside Like a rainbow's art every day.
