Lil’G’s Lucky Day

Lil’ G was lost and a little scared. The wind whistled through the tall trees as dark clouds rolled in. He stood in the middle of the forest, not sure which way was home.

Gabriel was a good little boy with big dreams. He was named after grandpa, but everyone called him lil’G. That afternoon he had set out on a big adventure to Maple Park. He wanted to find the perfect maple leaves for his scrapbook — and maybe discover something amazing along the way!

The forest was full of color. The cool air smelled fresh and crisp, and the maple leaves glowed in fiery orange, ruby red, and shining gold.

From behind a tree, Lil’ G spotted a squirrel hiding an acorn before winter. A brown hare hopped by, munching on green clovers. The forest was busy getting ready for the cold.

Suddenly … rustle … rustle! Something moved behind the bushes! Lil’ G crept closer — and out popped a skunk! Startled, the skunk raised its tail, ready to spray. Lil’ G gasped and ran — but trip! — he stumbled on a root and bumped his head.

When he opened his eyes, the sky was darker. Wind howled and trees swayed, tossing leaves like tiny dancers. A storm was coming fast, and Lil’ G didn’t know which way to go.

Then he heard a soft meow. Up in a tree, a little black cat clung to a shaking branch, crying for help. The poor kitty was terrified. Lil’ G had heard people say black cats were unlucky — but he didn’t believe that now.

“Jump, little buddy!” he called. “I’ll catch you!” The cat leapt into Lil’ G’s arms, then darted to the ground, pawing at his leg before running ahead. “Wait — you want me to follow?” Lil’ G chased after the brave cat through twisting paths and swirling leaves.

At last they burst out of the forest. Lil’ G could see his street! He scooped up the cat and smiled nose-to-nose. “Thank you, little buddy. You must be good luck. In fact, I’ll call you Lucky.”

That night, Lil’ G and Lucky sat by the window, safe and warm. Thunder rumbled and lightning flashed, making the raindrops sparkle. They held each other close and watched the storm together. Sometimes, when you get lost, you find a friend who shows you the way.
