Story Details

Little Teacup Tilly always hummed a different tune. A tiny, tinkling sound with her first sip of tea. A deep, booming note with her last. Today, a new hum was needed. Spoon Stanley, her best friend, was so sleepy. He needed a perfect lullaby. Tilly clinked her handle. "I will find it!" she chirped.

First, Tilly rolled past the big, shiny pot. "Mr. Pot, can you sing a sleepy song?" she asked. Mr. Pot rumbled. *BUM-BUM-BUM-BOOM!* His song was too loud! It made the sugar cubes jump. "Oh, no!" cried Tilly. Stanley whimpered softly.

Next, Tilly wobbled to the tall, slender forks. "Miss Forks, your voices are so pretty!" she whispered. The forks jiggled. *TING-A-LING-A-DING!* Their song was too bouncy! It made the jam jar wiggle. "Oh, dear!" Tilly sighed. Stanley tossed in his sleep.

Then, Tilly tiptoed to the smooth, wooden cutting board. "Mr. Board, you are so steady. Can you hum a calm tune?" she asked. Mr. Board thumped. *THWACK-A-THWACK-A-THUD!* His song was too strong! It made the pepper shaker sneeze. "Oh, me!" Tilly fretted. Stanley snored a shaky snore.

Finally, Tilly sat beside Stanley. The kitchen sounds swirled around her. The pot's rumble, the forks' twinkle, the board's thump. She took a deep breath. She hummed a gentle tune. *Mmm-hmm-hummm.* Stanley stirred.

She added Mr. Pot's softest *rumble*. Then the forks' quietest *tingle*. Last, Mr. Board's softest *thump*. All the sounds mixed! A soft, warm, wavy song filled the air. Tilly closed her eyes. Stanley, with a happy sigh, sank into a deep, peaceful sleep.
