Thomas and the Giant Flying Machine
Thomas and the Giant Flying Machine is non-fiction storybook follows Thomas, a curious 5-year-old, on an exciting journey to understand the science of flight, discovering how giant airplanes manage to soar in the sky and the best ways to be a super passenger while traveling.
Thomas was packed and ready to go! "Today is the day," he shouted with glee. "I'm going to learn the magic of how a giant plane can fly up to meet the blue sky!"
As he walked, a friendly face greeted him. "Hello, Thomas! I'm Kai, and I'll be your guide. Let's look at this big metal bird, the aeroplane!"
"See this wing?" Kai pointed high. "It's shaped like a teardrop. Air rushes over it, faster on top, slower underneath. This push is called Lift! Lift is what makes the plane rise up!"
"To move forward, the engines roar with Thrust! The giant fans spin and push the air backwards, like a superhero running very fast to take off!"
"And look! Little moving parts on the wing," Kai added. "They are called ailerons and flaps. The pilot moves them to turn, go up, and slow down safely for landing!"
Inside the aeroplane, Thomas peered out the window as the plane taxied. "Wow, we're moving! What keeps us safe inside this flying box, Kai?"
Kai showed him the first rule. "Always buckle up tight! A little click and a pull, and your Seatbelt is ready. It keeps you safe when we rush down the runway!"
"When you put your bags away, be sure they go up in the Overhead Locker," Kai explained. "Everything must be locked in tight, so nothing bumps your head!"
"If the air gets too thin, masks drop down to give you air! Pull the Oxygen Mask down, put it on your face first, then help your teddy bear or friend."
"And what about your tablet?" Kai asked. "Before we fly, your grown-up must put your games on Airplane Mode. The plane needs to talk to the ground, and little phones must be quiet!"
The plane landed with a gentle bump and a whirr. "Thank you, Kai!" Thomas said. "Now I know all about Lift, Thrust, and keeping safe on a flight!"
Thomas walked off the plane, feeling like a real explorer. The sky wasn't magic after all—it was science! And he was ready for his next adventure.
