Story Details

Pebble skipped stones by the ribbon stream and listened.

One stone plunked and the water hummed a tiny tune.

The tune drifted downriver like a ribbon of sound. Pebble followed.

At the bend, she met a boy who played little drums. He heard a different beat

Together they tossed stones. The river answered with a shy melody.

Downriver, a sleeping mill tangled the song in old ropes. The tune sounded sad.

Pebble picked a round stone and tapped it on a log. A clear bell-note rang

The rope loosened, the mill creaked, and the river’s tune came free and bright

People leaned from windows. A mother laughed when the song put a playful bounce in her step.

Pebble learned the river liked many sounds: drums, bell taps, and soft singing

They made a plan: a small riverside concert to share songs and smiles.

At dusk, everyone gathered. Pebble led the first throw. Stones and songs flew together.

The river’s music filled the town. Laughter returned like little bells.

Pebble placed the round stone on the bank. The river kept singing—waiting for new friends to play

The river sings when friends join the tune.
