Story Details

Pip, a little penguin, always waddled backward. His tiny tail feathers swayed with every step. One sunny afternoon, his shadow stretched long and wiggly. It danced behind him, a dark, playful twin. Pip giggled, flapping his flippers. He reached for it, but the shadow slipped away, jiggling with glee. "Come back!" he chirped.

The next evening, as the sun dipped low, Pip’s shadow grew even longer. It looked like a giant, skinny monster! Pip puffed out his chest. He chased it, hopping on one foot, then the other. The shadow twisted and turned, always just out of reach. Pip tilted his head, confused. Why wouldn't it play fair?

Night three. The sun painted the sky orange and pink. Pip's shadow was now a super-duper-long string of wiggles! He decided to trick it. He waddled fast, then spun around super-fast! But the shadow zipped away, laughing with its silent wiggles. Pip huffed, a tiny sigh escaping his beak. It was a very tricky shadow.

Then, as he gazed into a puddle, a tiny, shiny speck appeared in his reflection. It wasn't his wobbly shadow. It was a glimmering star! Pip’s eyes grew wide. He looked up, up, up into the vast, dark sky. Millions of stars sparkled back at him. His shadow was forgotten. The sky held a wondrous secret.
