How Louis Pasteur Discovered Germs

A long time ago, people didn’t know about germs. They didn’t know why food spoiled or why people got sick.

Louis Pasteur was a curious scientist. He wanted to know why things went bad.

He had a big idea: “Maybe tiny things we cannot see are making food spoil and people sick.”

He warmed milk and soup in glass bottles. When he heated them, they did not spoil.

But when he did not heat them… the milk turned sour and smelly.

Pasteur said, “Heat kills the tiny germs!” He called this pasteurization.

He also learned something amazing: Germs cause many diseases.

Pasteur made new vaccines to protect people and animals from dangerous germs.

Because of his work, milk became safe to drink. People got sick less often. He saved millions of lives.

Today, we still use his ideas. And we wash hands, keep foods in cool areas, and use vaccines thanks to Louis Pasteur.
