The Little Yellow Umbrella One cloudy morning, Evan walked to school and realized he had forgotten his raincoat. Dark clouds gathered above him, and he worried silently. “If it rains later… I’ll be soaked on the way home,” he thought.
In class, a new student sat beside him. “Hi! I’m Leo,” the boy said brightly.
Evan shyly replied, “I’m Evan.”
Throughout the lesson, Leo shared his books and smiled often, trying to make friends. Evan liked him but was still too shy to talk much.
Outside, the rain began to fall steadily. After school, Evan stood under the doorway, staring at the pouring rain. His house was far, and he had no raincoat or umbrella.
Leo walked up and asked, “Aren’t you going home?” “I forgot my raincoat,” Evan said softly. “I guess I’ll wait until the rain stops.”
Leo opened his backpack and pulled out a small yellow umbrella. “We can share,” he said with a grin. “But it’s tiny,” Evan said. “We’ll both get wet.”
“It’s okay,” Leo replied. “I don’t want you to walk home alone in the rain.”
The two boys stepped out together under the little yellow umbrella. Their legs got splashed, and the wind made the umbrella wobble, but both of them giggled the whole way.
“At my old school, I shared umbrellas with friends all the time,” Leo said. “I like having someone to walk with.” Evan nodded shyly. “I like it too… I’m just a bit shy.”
Halfway home, a strong gust tilted the umbrella. Leo moved closer to cover Evan more than himself. “Thank you,” Evan said quietly. “I’d be drenched without you.”
When they reached Evan’s house, he smiled. “If it rains tomorrow… want to share the umbrella again?” Leo’s eyes lit up. “Yes! Let’s be best friends from now on!” Evan nodded happily.
The rain softened into a gentle drizzle. The tiny yellow umbrella didn’t cover much, but it protected two hearts learning to open up to friendship.
And from that day on, whenever it rained, two boys always walked to school together under a little yellow umbrella, laughing side by side. Friendship begins the moment we decide to help each other.
