The Crow's Golden Feathers
A crow who desires golden feathers learns the joy of giving when he shares his precious plumes with other birds, discovering true happiness in generosity rather than owning them for himself.
The crow wanted golden feathers. Only golden feathers! A big wind ripped them right off. WHOOSH! They stuck high on the Sun Tree.
“My feathers!” cried the crow. Up, up he climbed. He saw a tiny sparrow. The sparrow shivered. “I’m so cold,” cheeped the sparrow.
The crow pulled a golden feather. It glittered. “Here,” chirped the crow. "Keep warm." The sparrow tucked it close. The crow felt a little warm, too.
Up, up he climbed. He saw a hen. She looked plain. “Oh,” clucked the hen. “I wish I was shiny.”
The crow pulled another golden feather. It shimmered. “Here,” cawed the crow. “Be bright.” The hen fluffed it up. The crow felt a little brighter, too.
Up, up he climbed. He saw a peacock. His tail looked droopy. “My colors are gone,” sighed the peacock.
The crow pulled his last golden feather. It sparkled. “Here,” squawked the crow. “Shine on!” The peacock fanned his tail. The crow felt very warm inside.
Then, WHOOSH! All the Sun Tree’s feathers fell down. Golden rain for all the birds! The crow flew home. He was just plain black. He felt very happy.
