Story Details

At the center of the Solar System lives a bright, shining mother — her name is the Sun. She has eight children, and together they are called the “Solar Family.”

Whoosh—

Next comes the pretty sister — Saturn. She loves wearing her rings.

Mars is a playful little brother, with a bright red face. He loves to run everywhere.

Brother Earth loves to care for all. He has blue seas, green trees, and many lovely friends.

Mercury is the smallest child. He stays closest to Mama Sun.

Venus loves to shine. When the Sun wakes up, she is the first in the sky.

Uranus is a very special brother. He likes to spin on his side, as if he’s dreaming in space.

Neptune is the farthest brother. He likes the cool wind and the quiet sounds of space.

The Sun watches her children shining in space and smiles:

Mama Sun sends out beams of light from deep within her heart. They travel through the dark sky and fly to her eight children. Her light makes Mercury warm, makes Venus bright, gives Earth day and night, and keeps faraway Neptune from feeling lonely… Her light is a warm hug. No matter how far her children go, her light always follows them.

This is our Solar family — Mama Sun and eight happy planets, each with something special.

Mercury: The closest one to the Sun and the fastest one.
