Lily, a curious girl in fluffy bunny pajamas, discovers her shadow is constantly changing shape. Confused, she asks a wobbly worm and a sleepy snail for answers before playfully realizing the sun is behind her shadow's magical dance.

Story Details

Lily, still in her beloved fluffy bunny pajamas, gasped. Her shadow! It was long and skinny like a noodle when she woke up, but now it was a big, round blob! “A mystery!” she declared, her eyes wide as saucers. "My shadow is playing tricks on me!"

First, she tiptoed to the window. Her shadow stretched and wiggled on the sunny floor, a long, dancing ribbon. But when a big, fluffy cloud drifted by, *poof!* Her shadow became short and squat, like a sleepy potato. Lily frowned. "Shadow, why do you change? Are you magic?"

She ventured out to the garden, her bunny slippers thumping. A wobbly worm, iridescent and shimmering, was inching along a damp leaf. "Excuse me, Mr. Wobbly Worm," Lily whispered, her voice full of urgency. "My shadow! It keeps changing! From a noodle to a potato! Do you know why?" The worm wiggled its head, unable to offer an answer. "Oh, bother!" exclaimed Lily, her shoulders slumping.

Undeterred, Lily spotted a sleepy snail, its shell a swirl of amber and gold, slowly dragging itself across a dewy rose petal. "Please, Mr. Sleepy Snail," Lily pleaded, her voice a little louder now. "My shadow! It's a noodle then a potato! Can you tell me why?" The snail blinked its tiny eyes, then slowly, slowly, pulled its head back into its shell. Lily stomped her foot, a tiny puff of dust rising from her slipper. "This is impossible!"

Just then, the sun peeked brighter through the leaves. Lily looked down. Her shadow, so long and skinny a moment ago, was now a tiny, round coin right under her feet! She twirled, and her shadow spun with her, getting longer, then shorter, then longer again! Her eyes lit up! It wasn’t magic! It was the sun, high in the sky, playing a cheerful game with her, making her shadow dance and change just like the sun itself moved across the sky! Lily giggled, finally understanding her amazing, magical, playful shadow.
