Story Details

Lily loved mismatched socks. One red. One blue. But her plant drooped. “Oh no!” she cried. Its leaves hung low. She forgot to water it.

Splash! She gave it water. Then more. Every day she splashed and splashed. The plant grew. It grew big. Very big. It nudged the window.

"Grow, plant, grow!" Lily cheered.

It grew taller. Its leaves spread. Soon, a giant leaf blocked the sun. “Hey!” Lily yelled. “My sun!” She tugged the leaf. It did not budge.

Lily fetched her tiny scissors. Snip! Snip! But the leaf was too tough. The scissors broke. “Oh, fiddlesticks!” she huffed.

Next, she got her toy truck. Zoom! She rammed the leaf. The truck bounced back. “No fair!” she stomped.

Then, an idea! Lily found her pet hamster, Pip. Pip loved to chew. “Pip, my friend!” she whispered. “Munch this monster!”

Pip wiggled his nose. He scampered up the stem. Gnaw! Gnaw! A hole appeared. More holes!

The big leaf wobbled. Crash! It fell. The sun streamed in. Lily cheered. Her room was bright again.

Pip squeaked happily. He got a big seed.
