Timeless Friends
Mia, a girl who loves to draw, discovers a magical connection through an old park tree to Leo, a boy from the past. They become friends and work together across time to save their shared tree, learning that true friendship can transcend time and distance.
Timeless FriendsUnder the oldest tree in the park, a girl named Mia sat with her sketchbook. She drew soft green leaves and little birds, but her page still felt empty. “I wish I had a friend to draw with,” she whispered to the roots.
A tiny light flickered in the bark. Mia leaned closer.
Inside the glow, she saw another child’s face—a boy with old-fashioned clothes and a wooden toy.
“Can you see me?” the boy asked softly. “Yes,” Mia breathed. “I’m Mia. Who are you?” “I’m Leo,” he said. “I play here… a long time ago.”
Mia blinked. The park behind Leo looked different—no swings, no tall buildings, only grass and wildflowers. “Are you from the past?” she asked. Leo nodded slowly.
“I think this tree remembers both our times,” he said. “When the evening light turns gold, the tree opens a little window.” Mia touched the glowing bark. Her fingers tingled, but she couldn’t reach his hand.
The next day, Mia raced to the tree too late. The sky was already gray, and the window was gone. Her chest felt heavy. “What if I never see Leo again?”
So the day after that, she went early and waited for the golden light. When the sun dipped low, the glow returned.
Leo’s face appeared, smiling with relief. “I thought you might forget,” he said. “Never,” Mia answered. “Let’s share our worlds.”
Mia held up her sketchbook. “This is my park now—swings, a slide, and a big blue bench.” Leo showed his wooden spinning top. “We have no swings, but we have space to run.” They both laughed, their voices mixing through the glowing bark.
One evening, Leo looked worried. “Men came today with ropes and tools,” he said. “They want to cut the tree down to make a road.” Mia’s heart jumped. “If they cut it… we can’t meet.”
The wind in both times rustled the same leaves. “We need to help the tree,” Mia said.
Leo thought for a moment. “I will talk to my grandpa. He loves this tree. I’ll ask him to protect it.” He took a small brush and painted a tiny red heart on the trunk. “One day, you’ll see this heart,” he said. “Then you’ll know we tried.”
In Mia’s time, the red heart was already there. She ran around the tree and found it, faded but real, just where Leo had painted it long ago. “It worked,” she whispered. “Your grandpa saved you… and our tree.”
Now it was Mia’s turn to protect it. The next afternoon, Mia made a little sign: “PLEASE PROTECT THIS TREE. IT IS SPECIAL.” She tied the sign with a soft blue ribbon around the trunk.
People in the park stopped, read it, and smiled.
As days passed, the golden window grew smaller. Sometimes only Leo’s eyes appeared. “I think the tree is closing the door,” he said quietly. Mia’s throat felt tight. “I don’t want to lose you.”
Leo gave a gentle smile. “We can still be friends in another way,” he said. “I’ll make a time box and hide it under the roots. Someday, you will find it.” His image faded, but Mia nodded, tears shining in her eyes.
Early the next morning, Mia brought a small spoon. She dug carefully near the roots, where the soil was soft and cool. Her spoon hit something hard.
She brushed away the dirt and lifted out a little tin box. Inside was Leo’s wooden top and a folded note.
Mia opened it with shaking fingers and read: “Dear Mia, if you find this, our friendship has reached you. Time can’t stop kind hearts.” Mia pressed the note to her chest.
That evening, Mia spun the top under the old tree. The leaves whispered above her, like Leo’s laugh hiding in the wind. She smiled up at the branches. “True friends are never lost,” she said softly.
