An and the Sunbeams
A rhyming tale about a little boy named An who lives in the perpetually dim town of Gloomville. Determined to bring light to his gloomy neighbors, An's persistence eventually transforms their world, showing everyone the joy and freedom that sunshine can bring.
The town of Gloomville was dim and grey, No sunshine brightened up the day. The houses stood, a dreary sight, Because no windows let in light.
Little An, with a tiny sigh, Poked through a wall and saw the sky! A golden beam, so warm and sweet, Danced on his nose, then on his feet.
He shouted, “Friends, oh come and see! A sunbeam wants to play with me!” But grumpy folks just shook their heads, And pulled their covers on their beds.
Next, An found a rusty spoon, And dug a hole beneath the moon. A sliver thin, a sunlit gleam, Landed right in his morning dream.
He yelled, “Look! Light, so soft and low!” But sleepy voices grumbled, “No!” They loved the dark, their cozy shade, And every sunbeam felt afraid.
Then An grabbed a pail and broom, He swept a path right through the gloom. He pushed and pulled with all his might, To make a bigger hole for light.
At last, a giant sunbeam burst, And painted colors for the first! The grey walls glowed, the floor grew warm, It chased away the dark-day storm.
Old Mrs. Mumble blinked her eyes, And grinned a very big surprise. Mr. Grumpy clapped his hands with glee, “This sunshine makes us all so free!”
No more dark corners, cold and deep, No more long naps, just endless sleep. An showed them all, with sunlit grace, How light can change a dreary place!
