Rum the grumpy ogre grumbled. His socks never matched, one red, one blue.

Tonight, he stomped out, a giant net in his huge hand. He wanted all the twilight.

He scooped and swooped, catching the last whispers of daylight.

“Mine!” he roared, tumbling back into his cave. But then… his cave sparked! Little glowing patches popped on the walls. They shimmered and pulsed.

Rum blinked. The cave was too bright! He covered his eyes. “Too much sparkle!” he bellowed.

He stomped over to a glowing patch. It looked like tiny mushrooms. He tried to squish one with his big finger. *Poof!* It glowed brighter. He tried to blow it out. *Whoosh!* More little lights winked on.

He fumed. He grabbed a bucket of mud. He splattered the mud over a whole patch of glowing bits. The mud slid off, and the lights still shone. The cave shimmered even more.

He tried to hide under his big, lumpy blanket. But the glow peeked through the weave. He peeked too.

The tiny lights danced. They weren't mushrooms! They were tiny flying bugs, each with a little light in its tail. Fireflies! Each one had its own tiny glow. They zipped and twirled.

Rum watched them. They were like little stars in his cave. He found a cozy spot by a smooth rock. The brightness didn't bother him there. He watched the soft twinkle. It was nice. Almost as nice as a mismatched sock.
