Barnaby's Missing Saucer
Barnaby the teacup faces a crisis when his saucer disappears just before the Royal Tea Party! With the help of the dramatic Detective Sugar Cube, he embarks on a whimsical adventure through the pantry to find it, learning a valuable lesson about what truly makes a good cup of tea.
Barnaby the teacup quivered! A dreadful silence filled the pantry. The Royal Tea Party was in an hour, and his saucer was GONE! Without it, he just knew his Earl Grey would taste like muddy puddles, or worse, old socks! A horror, a catastrophe! He simply couldn't hum his usual jolly tune. He needed help, fast!
Barnaby spotted Detective Sugar Cube, who wore a tiny crumb-stained trench coat and magnified spectacles. “My saucer! It’s vanished!” Barnaby wailed, sloshing a bit. “The tea will be ruined!”
Detective Sugar Cube puffed out his chest, trembling with drama. “A case of utter despair! The tea’s very soul is at stake!” He peered under a bread crumb, then behind a jam jar.
“Tell me, Barnaby, what has a handle and a spout but can’t pour itself a cup?” Barnaby wrung his handles. “That’s me! But where’s MY saucer?”
They searched! First, they tiptoed past the sleeping Kettle, whose snores rumbled like distant thunder. No saucer.
Then, they squeezed between towering stacks of dinner plates, smooth and cold. Still no saucer. Barnaby felt a tear well up. His tea would be revolting!
Next, they ventured into the terrifying territory of the biscuit tin. Crumbs crunched underfoot. Barnaby shivered. He imagined his poor saucer, lost and alone, perhaps trapped forever!
Detective Sugar Cube, with a mighty heave, pushed aside a giant, crumbly digestive. And there, nestled under a pile of buttery shortbreads, was Barnaby’s saucer! It sparkled faintly.
Barnaby gasped! He hadn't been looking in the right place at all. His saucer was safe. He felt a warm glow. The Royal Tea Party would be wonderful, even if his hum was a little wobbly. He didn’t need a ‘perfect’ pairing to enjoy a good cup of tea.
