Down in to the dark oceans where light can not reach. Scientists believed nothing could survive in this environment.

But they were wrong. Far far away, down in to the oceans where the light can not reach lived a mysterious fish.

Down in to the oceans a special light begins to glow in the darkness.

This kind of creatures that lights called bioluminescence. It means living light.

This fish called the lantern fish. But how do they survive in this challenging environment?

The lantern fish have a tiny cub shaped organs called photophores. They are like LED lights. These photophores contain a special chemical. And when it mixes with the oxygen it creates light.

The lantern fishes uses the light to communicate with each other. They use the light to attract smaller fishes and hunt.

A message from this story is, They live in one of the earth’s most challenging environment, a world with high pressure and dark. But instead of giving up they have evolved an incredible solution. They create their own light.
