Story Details

Barnaby the badger loved even numbers. He counted two acorns. He saw four shiny stones. He giggled at six wobbly worms.

One sunny morning, he sniffed a daisy. *Wiggle!* Something round landed on his nose. It was a ladybug! She had seven spots. Seven! Barnaby’s whiskers twitched. An odd number!

He tried to sneeze her off. *Achoo!* But she held tight.

Then a tiny blue butterfly fluttered near. It had three wings! Three! Barnaby frowned. The ladybug waved a leg. The butterfly landed on her back. Barnaby felt a bigger wiggle. More odd numbers! This was too much.

A buzzy bee zoomed by. It had five stripes! Five! The bee joined the butterfly and ladybug. Barnaby’s nose wiggled like jelly. So many odd friends!

But their tiny feet felt soft. Their colors were bright. Barnaby looked at the spots, the wings, the stripes. Seven, three, five. They were little numbers. And they were good. He smiled.

Odd numbers were not so bad after all.
